Othello Technology Systems Ltd (www.OthelloHosts.net), an established leader in UK web hosting and internet services for over a decade, announced today the completed acquisition and integration of the domain and web hosting clients from Mobius Web Services and sister firm Lavender Web Services – boutique hosts specialising in small business web design and hosting of ecommerce systems on Windows/DotNetPanel.

“The integration of Mobius customers brings over some great clients and their beatiful websites, extending our existing OthelloHosts DotNetPanel hosting services. I’m very excited to welcome several hundred more businesses to the ever growing Othello family.” reports Rob Golding, MD.

After careful planning the company migrated the Mobus and Lavender customers to new servers in the Othello DataCentre in Docklands, London, so clients would be able to benefit from the fully redundant high-performance AS29527 network, in-house dedicated support teams and gain an immediate SEO boost from being on ultra-fast UK IP addresses.

The completed integration grants users access to ‘Unified’ – the online Othello Client Portal – allowing for realtime management of web hosting accounts, domain registrations, vps and dedicated servers from one single location. Mobius clients now have the assurance that their website will be online at a host with a 10 year proven track record of uptime and quality support.

China Registry CNNIC decides it's ok for .cn residents to send 85 billion spam emails/day, but not overseas users to host .cn websites ...

It is with regret that we have to announce that CNNIC has imposed an immediate and indefinite suspension of all .CN registrations from overseas Registrars.

As a result of this action by CNNIC, we have no choice but to stop accepting new .CN registrations through OthelloNames.net and OthelloReg.net with immediate effect from today.

Please note that currently renewals will continue to be supported.

Availability checks for .CN domains via the Client Portal, OthelloNames.net Web Interface and API will be changed to return Not Available for .CN domains.

CNNIC says the suspension will

allow us to implement a better methodology to verify registrant information

.
This is in direct response to Chinese Government concerns that the normal use of .CN (Spamming and Scamming) had been “subverted” by overseas Registrants forcing the ccTLD to become synonomous with more “decadent” uses of domains (hosting profit making websites and p0rn)

There is no timetable for the resumption of new registrations.

Standard Tactics LLC, a hidden/shell company owned by registrar GoDaddy is set to close.

After all the hypocrasy of Bob Parsons, CEO of GD, complaining about domain tasting and kiting, yet running his own domain tasting/cybersquatting company, GoDaddy have finally announced that their sub-company “Standard Tactics LLC” is closing, after numerous trademark infringement cases for cybersquatting.

Whilst this can only be good news for domain purchasers (for actual use or search engine spam or whatever) it’s still not a complete clean-up of their act as a registry/registrar.

If a domain is not renewed, which had previously been registered by GD, and that domain has any sort of “residual” traffic or backlinks – they’re listing them for sale @ $300+ on TDNAM the GoDaddy owned domain aftermarket – rather than release them !

Up until recently, TDNAM had also come under heavy criticism after it was discovered that their own “VP of Aftermarket Sales” was caught bidding against his own clients to shill-bid up the price on 2ndary domains – GD have now issued a “policy” preventing staff bidding against clients on behalf of the company – a practice illegal on auctions in the US – it would be like ebay knowing yor max bid and always forcing you to pay it !
